Dean Landy is a visionary urban designer, architect, author, and social entrepreneur who is driven by his personal mission statement ‘to improve the quality of people’s lives by creating stronger communities’.
This clear focus has translated to a multi-faceted career that genuinely seeks to create more vibrant, sustainable and socially connected communities both within Australia and internationally.
Dean is the founding director of One Heart Foundation. He first travelled to Kenya in 2007 to begin his work in transforming the lives of vulnerable children and communities living in extreme poverty across Africa. Since then, through Dean’s leadership, determination and belief to dream big, One Heart has established three villages across Kenya and Uganda and is providing sustainable solutions to help end generational poverty and raise funds to start initiatives that build self-sufficiency in regional areas. But it won’t stop there… Deans vision always extending to greater impact, he sees 100,000 lives being positively and directly impacted, in a sustainable and self-funding way by the year 2030.
Board Member
Jordan is a Melbourne based business executive who has a passion to positively impact the lives of vulnerable people.
With a background in wealth management, property funds management and technology, and having visited various parts of the world through travel, Jordan has had the benefit of seeing how the business community can have an amazing impact on people who are challenged by circumstances out of their control.
Jordan specialises in New Business Development and Strategic Planning, and is passionate about connecting people to the heart of One Heart Foundation. He has a very strong ability to build relationships and is always thinking about the right connections and partnerships that will not only support One Hearts progression forward but also create high impact outcomes for everyone involved. Jordan is true project partner and believer that by working together we can all amplify our impact.
Board Member & CFO
Cain, CFO and board member of One Heart foundation, is a qualified and experienced Chartered accountant who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his finance and commercial roles at KPMG, Pacific Brands and Australian Liquor Marketers.
Cain understands the importance of investing in the future, and that’s not just financially speaking. He believes that we have a responsibility to make the right decisions for change now, to ensure we are able to positively impact the future of many generations to come. After visiting Kenya in 2015 on the inaugural Run From Poverty Experience, Cain was inspired to get involved in the work One Heart Foundation is doing and since then has been fundamental in managing the foundations financials, he is across every detail and doesn’t miss a cent, from compliance, regulation and reporting he has it all under control.
Board Member
As the founder of Waterman Business Centres Neville is not only passionate about creating environments that support the growth of business but also seeing business as a vehicle for good.After visiting the One Heart village in 2018 and seeing the effects of poverty first hand, Neville was further compelled to connect with One Heart in a greater way.
Neville is excited at the prospect of One Heart’s potential to impact thousands of individuals and communities across the world, and it’s his entrepreneurial approach and strategic thinking that is always encouraging One Heart foundation to challenge the thinking around charity and business.
Board Member
Australian Board member and Vice president of the Kenyan Board, Tony applies his extensive experience in construction and engineering to the planning and delivery of One Hearts infrastructure projects. He combines his construction knowledge with a sound understanding of the functional and operational requirements to ensure our buildings are constructed and maintained for purpose and longevity.
Tony is the conduit between our team in Australia and Africa and responsible for overseeing the building facilitates development and management of the One Heart villages.
He sees immense value in the learnings that can be shared between teams and cultures and is passionate about empowering and equipping individuals and communities a foundation of skills and knowledge that will see them flourish.
Kenya General Manager
Martin, general manager of One Heart Foundation Kenya provides on the ground leadership, direction and management of the Turbo, Kenya One Heart Village. His experience across tourism, customer service, planning and operations has been built through years of industry experience with Alphax College where he held a head of department position and was responsible for the coordination and implementation of departmental activities, budget and forecasting and customer relationship Management. Martin holds a Bachelor in travel and tour operations with Moi Univserty and has been with One Heart Foundation since 2017. Beyond his technical skills, Martin is empathetic and energetic and whilst he maintains management of the day to day, he always keeps the bigger picture in mind to ensure the growth and development of individuals and communities in Kenya will provide long term sustainable change.
Administration Manager
Debra is the thread that ties it all together, Operations Manager of One Heart Foundation she keeps everything and everyone moving in the right direction. Debra has been involved with the foundation since 2017 and brings a much-aligned passion for the learning and development of children from her background as a secondary teacher and learning disabilities support worker.
Understanding and appreciating the power of education and care from her first-hand experience delivering this through many years within the education sector, Debra approaches every task as an opportunity to create a better outcome for One Heart Foundation and the communities it is working to support.
Managing all of the day to day administrative and operational elements of One Heart Foundation, Debra works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.
Events & Experiences
Courtney is passionate about finding ways to make a positive impact in the lives of others and loves seeing the effect of One Heart’s hard work and vision. As Practice Director of Melbourne based Architecture firm ClarkeHopkinsClarke, she brings her experience in strategy and planning, operations and event management to bring things to life. Whether its One Hearts annual Run from Poverty Experience, fundraising events or new purpose driven initiatives she is always pushing forward to find ways that will elevate One Heart Foundations impact.
She sees the value in connecting with your passions and like-minded people to make change happen for the better and channelling that through events and experiences enables the Foundation to amplify it’s positive influence.
Uganda General Manager
Chuma, Operations Manager and Chairman Board of Directors for One Heart Uganda, has over 17 years of ministry leadership and office management experience which he brings to the foundation. He is passionate about learning and development and supporting people to reach their full potential, as he himself has experienced the power of education and empowerment and knows this can play a significant role in transforming the future of both individuals and communities.
Chuma is a trained Biblical Theologist, Church Minister and Carpenter with certificates in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. From vision to detail to delivery, Chuma brings his versatile skill set to support and contribute to the strategic planning and operational running the One Heart Uganda village.
He is focused on a lifelong journey to bring positive change to the world in all aspects of people’s lives, with his personal values aligning so close to those of One Hearts, he
Board Member
Spanning a 25-year banking career, Alf has spent most of his adult life travelling the globe. During this time, he has been fortunate to learn from so many different cultures which has strongly shaped his world view.
Alf cares deeply about people and stands up to injustice. He also finds great frustration in ineffective processes and waste, and therefore strives to achieve the greatest impact with tools available. It was this approach which drew him to One Heart. Offering children a hand-up, not a hand-out, he saw a group driven by achieving great feats for vulnerable children with minimal resources. Since joining One Heart, Alf has brought new ideas which will help impact a significantly larger pool of children in the future.
Alf’s management style brings infectious levels of energy to task, driving all to be the best versions of themselves. He has driven a variety of campaigns for a multitude of different organisations. From helping build schools in Cambodia to supporting the GiveWell movement, Alf is always looking for ways to make a positive impact in the world.
Board Member
Simon is a businessman, humanitarian and philanthropist. With 30 years executive experience, including 22 years as CEO/Director of large private, public and humanitarian organisations, he understands the complexities of business better than most.
As the head of one of Australia’s largest private companies, he was responsible for 32 operating entities, employing over 13,000 people. In 2011 Simon’s focus changed from pursuing material success to pursuing meaningful significance. He left corporate life and volunteered to support the United Nations for six months, where he remained in Africa (without his family) for over 7 years.
Simon is a problem solver on a global scale. He has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to successfully lead commercial teams in overcoming seemingly impossible tasks. He was also the head of a large global consortium responsible for identifying and overcoming the systemic issues causing poverty and starvation in developing countries, resulting in hundreds of thousands of families living significantly better lives today.
Simon’s current priority is “knowledge philanthropy” where his proven expertise is shared freely to develop successful managers into inspiring leaders. His unique coaching approach guarantees lasting, positive changes in leadership behaviours by focusing on the intrinsic link between inspiring leadership and improved business results. 100% of Simon’s coaching fees are given to charity.
General Manager
Hannah’s always had a passion to see people freed from the ‘stuff’ that would restrict them from living life to the full. This passion has been expressed in many ways – as an author, speaker, leader, mentor – in both her corporate career and charity/community roles.
As General Manager of One Heart Foundation, Hannah brings a wealth of business & charity sector experience, strategic thinking and executional ability to the table. Her never say never attitude means that even the biggest challenges are seen as opportunities for finding creative ways forward.
Beyond One Heart, Hannah is a wife, mother to 4 kids, runner & coffee lover; as well as sitting on multiple boards.
