Life House

Home is a safe haven, a place to belong. A place to live with our families and enjoy with friends. A place to build memories and a future. A place to dream, a place to plan, a place to cry, to learn and a place to grow. Home is a place where we belong and can truly just be ourselves.

The Project

Construction on Life House began in 2018 and completed in 2019. It was funded by Life Church in Melbourne and New Zealand. Life House isn’t just shelter, it’s a home.

The home is set on 12 acres of land and is surrounded by lush gardens and a banana plantation where children can go and pick fresh fruit! It has 8 bedrooms, access to bathrooms, a kitchen, large family dining and living area, plus a small house parents apartments.

The People

Life House is home to 41 children and our house parents, Jacky & Chris, along with their two biological daughters. Each child is welcomed home from school by Mama Jacky, has their own bed, something many of them have never had before coming to One Heart. They each have the opportunity to contribute to family life - giving them a sense of purpose, dignity and belonging to a family.

The Goals

Homes need constant upkeep! Life House is kept in brilliant condition so it can provide hundreds of children with a place to call home for decades to come. We would also love to see Destiny House, its neighbouring home filled with children again who need a loving place to stay in the short or long term. To do this, we will need to do maintenance on the property and bring more sponsors into the One Heart family.

The Region

Situated in the Uasin Gishu county in the west of Kenya, Life House has an altitude of approximately 1800m. The climate is temperate, tending to be cooler than much of Kenya due to its height. Eldoret is the closest town and provides access to services and infrastructure such as hospitals, including the only public children’s hospital in East Africa, Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital.

The Supporters

Life House is supported by our child sponsorship program, covering the costs involved in feeding and clothing, maintaining good hygiene and all other costs involved in creating a safe place to call home for a child. The building itself was principally funded by Life Church in Melbourne & New Zealand.
